snow shovelingWe knew it was coming.  It’s all the weather guy could talk about for days but when we went to bed last night, not a flake had fallen.  When I woke up this morning the first thing I did was peak out the window and there it was: snow.  Not as much as predicted but still quite a load of snow had fallen on us during the night.  I then proceeded to call the schools and check AM680 News to see if I had to get dressed or if I could roll over and get a few more minutes of sleep.  Our area hadn’t had a snow day in years so I was a little shocked that they actually had declared a snow day but I was still grateful.

The kids spent most of the morning hanging out in their PJ’s, playing on the computer and developing a complicated story about Indiana Jones vs. The Pirates.  After lunch we were off to the park with our neighbor friends to do some sledding.  It felt like -17C so we were bundled up and had a blast.  Once we were home, I made hot chocolate with marshmallows and a snack for the kids.  I then set up a DVD for them to watch while my husband and I tackled shoveling the driveway.  We don’t have a snow-blower.  I kind of think it’s not in true Canadian spirit to use a snow-blower when you can break your back for hours shoveling snow only to have to start over again when you think you’ve finished.  I do however really appreciate when a neighbor takes pity on us and lets us borrow their snow-blower but today was not one of those days.  Between the two of us, it took a little over an hour to get the job done and then we enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate with extra marshmallows too.  Tonight we’ve got a movie and I’ve got some letter writing to do.  Relax, enjoy the peace, for tomorrow life is back on with a new covering of snow.
