Last Saturday night, my husband and I went out on a super date.  Our evening started out (see Part 1 here)with an incredibly delicious dinner at Benihana and a short walk later we were at The Second City building to see the show Dreams Really Do Come True! (and other lies).  We have never been to a Second City performance before but have heard many great things about it.  One look at the history of comedians who have played on that stage and you know you are going to have a good time.  We got there just before the show started so we were seated in the balcony.  At first we were disappointed that we weren’t closer to the stage but once the lights went down, I was glad to have the little extra space and from our vantage point we could see the whole stage so I was thrilled.

From the first joke to the last, we didn’t stop laughing.  About 90% of the show was scripted but the few shots of improv were some of the funniest stuff.  They touched on topics of love, relationships, jobs and pop culture.  I was embarrassed for the people that they singled out but I still laughed until it hurt.  At times a little crude but we would absolutely recommend this show for anyone looking for a fun time.  We went to the early show but if we’d known, we might have gone to the late show because following that they do a free improv show.

After the show we walked to the subway, past nameless clubs that were setting up their velvet ropes for club goers that were just starting their nights.  I was glad to be heading home but we still had a long subway ride home.  The Maple Leafs must have been playing at home because the subway was busy with blue and white fans.  After a few stops and some shuffling around, we managed to get a seat.  Once again my husband did a great job of distracting me from over thinking my claustrophobic situation and we arrived safely home feeling well fed and refreshed.  I really had a great time and was very proud of myself for staying in the moment and enjoying myself and enjoying my husband’s company.  We could both use more nights like that.
