Merry Christmas and Happy New Things

Christmas is quickly approaching and we’re all in the middle of the final rush to get everything ready for the big day.  This year we’ve managed to spread some of the celebration out over a few days which hopefully helps expand the joy and lessen the stress and not the other way around. This weekend we’ll be making our list and checking it twice to make sure that we have presents for everyone. I hope you have a wonderful holiday[…]

    Let’s Talk

Share a smile.  Make your voice heard. Today was Bell’s Let’s Talk Day to support Canadian Mental Health.  For every long distance phone call, re-tweet or text message sent, Bell will donate 5 cents to Canadian mental health programs.   As you might have noticed, it has been awhile since I’ve posted anything.  I can’t seem to find my voice right now.  I’m going to take some time and get inspired again.  Be back soon.

    Congratulations Colbert Nation

I must admit that I don’t know much about politics, Canadian or American, but I do love to watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.  They shed a hilarious light on political topics that otherwise I would not have been aware of or interested in. This morning, Stephen Colbert’s Super PAC, released it’s financial reports and a statement which shows that since it’s inception through today, they have raised over a million dollars all in the name of a joke.  Super PACs[…]

Benihana: Night Out On The Town Part 1

Posted by Tammy On January - 25 - 2012 0 Comment

This past Saturday my husband and I had a super date night.  The anticipation of this date was filled with worry, apprehension and excitement but I’m happy to report that the results were wonderful. My husband usually plans most of our nights out because if it were left to me we would probably never go anywhere.  I don’t like risk or change or new things.  I’m very happy going to the same restaurant and ordering the same food because past results have taught me that it[…]

Family Photo Albums

I have fond memories of flipping through photo albums seeing pictures of my mom as a kid or my friends when they were babies.  It seems like most pictures are digital these days which means that we have thousands more pictures but we only share the crappy ones we take on our cell phones. Our family has an online photo album so that we can share photos with our families, sending out updates when we upload a bunch of new[…]

Just Like Mom Used to Make

Posted by Tammy On January - 17 - 2012 0 Comment

While searching the fridge for lunch ideas, I came across a chuck of Velveeta cheese that had been purchased for a previous new recipe but I didn’t use the whole block.  This sad, squished lump inspired me to make macaroni and cheese from scratch.  My mom used to make it when I was a kid and it was the best thing ever.  I couldn’t wait for my son and husband to try it at lunch to see if I managed[…]

Let The Awards Begin

I love entertainment.  I love movies and TV most of all.  I’ve been really lucky recently to be able to go to the movies instead of just watching them at home.  I like getting cozy on the couch with a blanket, drink and snack, either by myself, with my husband or as a whole family but sometimes I crave that communal energy you receive sitting in a super theatre with hundreds of strangers experiencing the same story for the first time.  Sound[…]

Bazaar Soup Mix

jar soup

My mother-in-law gave me this recipe last Christmas so that I could reproduce these soup kits with the kids to give to teachers and neighbors.  It’s a little time consuming collecting jars and ingredients, but once you’ve got it all it’s easy to put several together all at once.  They look really nice in a glass or plastic jar, all the ingredients layered and a recipe card with instructions tried with a ribbon around the lid.  We like this yummy recipe[…]

Souper Dooper Supper

Today is the first day that it really feels like and looks like winter here.  We woke up to a few centimeters of snow, blowing winds and a -15C windchill.  After bundling the kids up and off to school, I started to think about lunch and dinner ideas.  My youngest son is home for lunch but doesn’t like to eat lunch.  He would rather snack all day so usually I don’t put much effort into lunch.  I suspect that after school the[…]

Re-imagine This!

So I’ve been thinking… With some encouragement from my husband… I going to start working on this blog again but I’m going to take some time to sort out my ideas before posting again. Fresh start and a fresh look to inspire me. More to come!

Snack Time

I’m stuck in a rut when it comes to packing snacks for my son for school.  I like to pack him two things, usually a fruit and something else but lately he’s been picky and I’ve been lazy.  He’s taken frozen yogurt and a fruit snack every day this week and he must be bored with it because I’m bored just thinking about it.  He tells me about what other kids are bringing in hopes that I’ll let him bring[…]

The Secret That Everyone Knows

stop cancer sign

I was reading an article on Yahoo the other day about simple life changes that could stop cancer and it’s not surprising that the changes are not surprising.  We all know what we need to do to be healthier: eat better, drink less alcohol and exercise more.  Easy to write, easy to think but difficult to consistently do.  You would think that the motivation factor would be huge after reading an article like this.  By making these changes I’m decreasing[…]

Kinda Camping

roasting marshmallows

My son and husband have gone camping with my son’s troop today.  It’s the first time and he’s very, very excited.  I’m a little nervous.  He’ll be safe, have lots of fun and my husband will be with him the whole time but I can’t help but get a little worried.  My husband is a relaxed, go with the flow kind of parent which is exactly what I need to balance out my over-obsessive worrying mom brain.  My biggest concern[…]
