Foodland Ontario LogoIn the mail on Friday I received from Foodland Ontario their Fresh Ontario Food Nutrition Guide. One side has all of the types of produce that is grown in Ontario, their seasonal availability and nutritional information. The other side has meat, dairy and legumes that are also produced in Ontario and their nutritional information as well. I went onto their website to see what other information was available. The recipe section looked really interesting so I’ve bookmarked it for use later when I need inspiration.
I do not enjoy gardening but this year we planted tomatoes, zucchini and squash. We were able to harvest about 15 tomatoes and 1 zucchini. I have no idea what happened to the squash. We also have a yellow plum tree which has only bared fruit twice in the 8 years we’ve been in the house and a granny smith apple tree which didn’t do so well this year. We picked all of the apples today and probably had 30 good apples and 60 bad apples. In years past we’ve had hundreds of good apples which we desperately shared with neighbors and friends because we didn’t know what to do with all of them. This year, I think we’ll make a few pies and maybe try a new recipe from Foodland Ontario.
