Share a smile.  Make your voice heard. Today was Bell’s Let’s Talk Day to support Canadian Mental Health.  For every long distance phone call, re-tweet or text message sent, Bell will donate 5 cents to Canadian mental health programs.   As you might have noticed, it has been awhile since I’ve posted anything.  I can’t seem to find my voice right now.  I’m going to take some time and get inspired again.  Be back soon.

My family loves bacon but rarely do we ever eat it at home because it’s greasy and messy to cook.  I will buy regular pork bacon if I need it for a recipe but usually we eat turkey bacon.  Today we had turkey bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches for lunch.  So yummy!  I find cooking turkey bacon is much cleaner and more forgiving.  It doesn’t shrink or curl up so a few slices covers what you want and I don’t[…]

I was reading an article on Yahoo the other day about simple life changes that could stop cancer and it’s not surprising that the changes are not surprising.  We all know what we need to do to be healthier: eat better, drink less alcohol and exercise more.  Easy to write, easy to think but difficult to consistently do.  You would think that the motivation factor would be huge after reading an article like this.  By making these changes I’m decreasing[…]

I just finished reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and really enjoyed it.  Not surprisingly I love the first section about her time in Italy where she eats and does things just for pleasure.  I was amazed by her bravery and ability to eat anything while traveling.  I confess, I’m a picking eater and especially when I travel.  For fear of upsetting my already delicate digestive system, I prefer to eat bland, familiar food.  Not even a bit of[…]

What do you feed your sick kids?  It’s been days since they have eaten a full meal.  I’m to the point where I’ll make anything that they request.  Mac and Cheese…you got it!  I’m not hungry now.  Oatmeal…you got it!  I’m not hungry anymore.  Turkey sandwich with no crunchy things….you got it!  My tummy hurts now.  That’s all I’ve heard for a week now. They have managed to eat little bits of orange, apple slices, cheerios and of course juice.[…]

Today when I walked my son to his friend’s house I decided to take a walk myself instead of hurrying home.  As I started walking, I was plotting out my path in my head trying to decide which streets to take.  Do I take the short block, the long block or the really long block?  Well, I was feeling good so I decided on the really long block and it was good until… Well do you ever reach the almost half-way[…]

I’m watching the Golden Globes tonight because I love entertainment news and never pass up the chance to see some fab fashions.  I’m loving the show but can’t help but get the urge every commercial to raid the kitchen.  I even brushed my teeth before the show to help motivate me not to snack.  My son is now sleeping on my lap because he has the flu and doesn’t want to sleep without me.  I guess all I need is a[…]

I’m a die-hard fan of sport.  Doesn’t matter what the sport is, I can get excited about anything and the Olympics is the pinnacle of all sport.  The Olympics this year is extra special for me because it is being held in Vancouver, Canada. I love Canada.  I love being a Canadian and take any opportunity to praise this great nation I live in.  My kids think I know each Canadian athlete personally because I’m so invested in their performances,[…]

I’ve been food journaling for over a month now.  Every day, every detail, no matter how awful.  No one is looking at it but me but I’m totally embarrassed by my habits.  Some days, I can’t believe the crappy choices I made, over and over again.  I have no self control.  I have no will power.  If the crap is in the house, I will eat it and usually eat it until it is all gone. I put a lot[…]

It seems silly, asking for snow in the winter when usually we complain about the cold and the snow.  By February we have usually had our fill and can’t wait for spring but this year has been pathetic.  It’s been cold but I’ve only had to shovel the driveway 3 times this year and only one snowfall was enough to be able to go sledding with the kids.  I love where I live because we actually have seasons but this winter has[…]
